Made from coconut fibre, a natural by-product of the coconut industry, it holds compost securely inside wire baskets and wall planters while allowing excess water to drain away freely. That helps prevent waterlogging and keeps roots healthy. Its warm, earthy brown texture looks smart from below and blends beautifully with trailing plants.
At 30cm (12") across, this pre-formed liner suits standard 12-inch hanging baskets. It’s ideal for replacing a worn or tired liner, or for refreshing your baskets ahead of a new season. Use it for summer displays of fuchsias, petunias, begonias, verbena and trailing lobelia, winter and spring baskets of pansies, violas, ivy and bulbs, or edible baskets of strawberries, cherry tomatoes and herbs.
To fit, press the liner into the basket so it sits snugly against the frame. For extra moisture retention, place a circle of polythene or an old compost bag in the base before filling, with a few drainage holes cut in it. Fill with good-quality multipurpose or hanging basket compost, then plant up and water thoroughly. For a fuller display, you can make small slits in the sides of the liner to plant trailing plants through. Coco liners dry out faster than soil, so water baskets regularly, often daily in warm weather.
