Taylors Bulbs Tulip 'Negrita' (7)

A true classic of the Triumph group, Tulip 'Negrita' bears large, satin-finished flowers in rich, deep purple, veined with beetroot-purple streaks for a striking, jewel-like effect. Held on strong, light green stems reaching around 40-45cm, it copes well with erratic spring weather and looks stunning planted en masse, or paired with softer pastel tulips for contrast.

Plant the bulbs from mid to late autumn — waiting until after the first frosts helps guard against tulip fire — at a depth of 10-15cm in fertile, well-drained soil, in a sunny position sheltered from strong winds and excess wet. 'Negrita' flowers in mid-to-late spring and, as a reliable Triumph variety, performs consistently year after year. As with all tulips, the bulbs are harmful if eaten and can cause skin allergies, so gloves are worth wearing when handling.

Supplied as a pack of 7 top-quality bulbs. Each bulb is hand-selected before dispatch. Available from Pengelly Garden Centre.
