Taylors Bulbs Tulips `Orphanidea Flava` (12)

A real treat for the rockery or gravel garden, Tulipa orphanidea 'Flava' is a charming species tulip quite unlike the classic bedding varieties. Slender stems, each capable of carrying multiple star-shaped flowers, open in a warm bronze-yellow with pale green striping and rich garnet-edged petal tips, with flashes of orange on the outer petals — a subtle, jewel-like effect best appreciated up close.

Compact at around 30cm, Flava is an excellent naturaliser, spreading gradually to form generous clusters that return reliably year after year. It's perfectly suited to alpine beds, gravel gardens, pots, or drifted through informal borders and meadow-style plantings, and flowers in mid to late spring with a light, pleasant fragrance.

Plant bulbs in autumn, 10–15cm deep, in fertile, well-drained soil with shelter from strong winds and excess winter wet. As with all tulips, bulbs and sap can be harmful if eaten and may irritate skin, so gloves are recommended when handling.
