Sorbus aucuparia 'Beissneri' – Rowan (12L Pot)

'Beissneri' is a distinctive rowan with year-round appeal, and its outstanding feature is its bark. The trunk is a warm reddish-brown and the young stems glow orange-copper, which looks especially striking in winter sun. In May the tree is covered in frothy clusters of creamy white flowers, followed by heavy bunches of red berries that are a magnet for birds. The finely cut, fern-like leaves are fresh green through summer and turn yellow in autumn. Compact and upright, it's an ideal small tree for limited spaces, front gardens and wildlife-friendly planting.

It grows to around 5m x 3m after 10 years. Plant in full sun or light shade in moderately fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil. It tolerates clay. It is very hardy and copes well with urban pollution and coastal conditions. Little pruning is needed beyond removing any crossing or damaged branches in winter.
