Salix x sepulcralis 'Erythroflexuosa' ('Golden Curls') – Twisted Willow (12L Pot)

'Golden Curls' is a wonderfully quirky willow, grown for its twisted, corkscrewing stems. They glow golden-yellow through winter and spring before maturing to bronze-gold in summer. The curling shoots are clothed in bright green, twisted, lance-shaped leaves and hang gracefully, giving the tree a charming, gently weeping look. Once the leaves fall, the contorted stems really come into their own in low winter sun. Cut stems are prized by florists and are superb for flower arrangements, fresh or dried.

It grows to around 4m x 2.5m after 10 years, forming a small tree or large shrub. For the brightest young stems, cut back hard in early spring every few years, which also supplies plenty of material for arranging. Plant in full sun in moist soil. It tolerates chalk, clay, wet ground and coastal conditions. As with all willows, keep it well away from drains and buildings.
