Salix alba 'Tristis' – Golden Weeping Willow (12L Pot)

The golden weeping willow is one of the most graceful and romantic of all trees, the classic waterside willow of lakes and riverbanks. Its ascending branches form an open, rounded crown from which long, golden-yellow shoots cascade right down to the ground, creating a curtain of colour. It glows in winter sun once the leaves have fallen. Small yellow catkins appear in spring as the narrow, lance-shaped, yellow-green leaves unfurl. It's fast-growing and makes a stunning specimen beside a pond, stream or lake, or in the middle of a large lawn.

It grows to around 6m x 4m after 10 years and eventually becomes a large tree, so choose a spacious spot. Plant in full sun in moist or damp soil. It tolerates chalk and clay. As with all willows, the roots seek out water, so plant well away from buildings, drains and foundations. Pruning is rarely needed beyond removing any dead or crossing branches in late winter.
