Named in honour of world-renowned pastry chef Jordi Roca — winner of the 2014 World's Best Pastry Chef Award and holder of three Michelin stars — this striking edible rose is a true trailblazer for the kitchen garden. Its large, richly petalled blooms open in a lovely apricot-orange colour, filling the air with a strong, sweet fragrance from a plant that flowers right through the season. Produced on a healthy, disease-resistant shrub, this variety carries one to three flowers per stem, offering plenty to enjoy both in the garden and on the plate.
Beyond its ornamental appeal, 'Jordi Roca' is prized as a culinary rose, with a naturally sweet flavour that makes it a favourite for rose petal preserves, homemade rose water, and floral teas, as well as a fragrant addition to fruit salads and Oriental-inspired dishes. Petals can be used fresh, dried or candied, and are best picked in the early morning when the flowers are nearly at full bloom.
Easy to grow and reliably healthy, this rose performs well in a sunny position, in fertile, free-draining soil kept moist but never waterlogged. A light trim in autumn followed by a proper prune in spring will encourage strong growth and continued flowering, with feeding recommended at pruning time and again after the first flush of blooms.
Reaching 70–80cm (28–31in) in height with a similar spread, 'Jordi Roca' is a wonderful addition to borders, cutting gardens, or anywhere a touch of edible beauty is welcome.
Each plant has been hand-selected for healthy growth and vibrant colour.
