Rosa 'Hrezogin Christina'

A true treasure of Kordes' Parfuma collection, 'Herzogin Christiana' captivates with luxuriously full, pompon-like blooms that shift beautifully from delicate cream to soft blush pink depending on the light, set against dark green, slightly glossy foliage. Flowers are borne mostly in clusters rather than singly, creating a wonderfully romantic, nostalgic display. The fragrance is exceptional and complex — opening with an unusual fruity top note of lemon and sparkling champagne, hints of elderflower and ripe raspberry, before settling into a fresh, airy heart reminiscent of apples after summer rain, and finishing on a soft, sweetly classic rose base. The scent reaches its peak intensity at midday and in the evening. This lovely bedding rose is named after Christiane, Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1735–1794).

Robust, reliably winter-hardy and repeat-flowering from May through to October, 'Herzogin Christiana' thrives in a bright, sunny position, in humus-rich, free-draining soil that never becomes waterlogged. A light trim in autumn followed by a proper prune in spring will keep growth strong and encourage the fullest flowering, with feeding recommended at pruning time and again after the first flush of blooms. It pairs beautifully with blue and violet companions such as lavender, delphiniums or salvias, and also looks wonderful alongside airy ornamental grasses.

Reaching 70–80cm (28–31in) in height with a bushy, upright habit, this ADR award-winning rose is equally happy in beds and borders or in containers on a patio or terrace, and makes a lovely cut flower for bringing its remarkable fragrance indoors.
