Rosa 'Exotic'

A truly exotic addition to the Mella collection, this rose lives up to its name with beautifully rounded, semi-double flowers in an exquisite blend of pink and purple, softly highlighted by a yellow aureole at the centre. The blooms are simple yet generously sized, giving a natural, wildflower-like charm, and are followed later in the season by attractive rose hips for added interest. Flowering continuously from bottom to top, this variety forms a compact, rounded shrub that's as pretty in a border as it is in a pot.

Easy-going and reliable, 'Exotic Mella' is a compact rose that's well suited to sunny positions, in fertile, free-draining soil kept moist but never waterlogged. It's especially attractive to bees and butterflies, making it a lovely choice for wildlife-friendly planting. A light trim in autumn followed by a proper prune in spring will keep growth strong and encourage a full display of flowers, with feeding recommended at pruning time and again after the first flush of blooms.

Reaching a neat 50–60cm (20–24in) in height, 'Exotic Mella' looks best planted in groups for maximum impact, and is equally at home in the middle of a flower bed or in a large container.
