Robinia x margaretta 'Pink Cascade' – Pink False Acacia (12L Pot)

'Pink Cascade' (also sold as 'Casque Rouge') is one of the most exotic-looking flowering trees for British gardens. In June it is hung with profuse cascading clusters of fragrant, rich pink pea-like flowers, which are much loved by bees. The dainty, dark green pinnate leaves give the tree a light, airy feel through summer before turning yellow in autumn. It was bred at Princeton Nurseries in New Jersey and is fast-growing and bushy, making a showstopping summer specimen for a lawn or sunny border.

It grows to around 5m x 4m after 10 years. Plant in full sun or dappled shade in a sheltered spot away from cold, strong winds, as the branches can be brittle. It is very tolerant of poor, dry and chalky soils, although it performs best in moderately fertile ground. Little pruning is needed; if any is required, do it in late summer. All parts of the tree are toxic if eaten, so it's best planted away from grazing animals.
