Rhododendron 'Shamrock' 15cm pot

A charming small-leaved rhododendron with an unusual flower colour rarely seen in the genus, 'Shamrock' produces an abundance of trusses, each holding five to nine dainty, funnel-shaped blooms in pale yellow, delicately tinged with green and flecked with yellow spots inside. Flowering through early and mid-spring, the soft, almost lime-washed colouring gives a fresh, understated look quite different from the bolder pinks and purples of many rhododendrons.

This is a compact, dwarf, spreading shrub, reaching around 75cm in height and spread, with small evergreen leaves that make a neat backdrop to the flowers and provide low, dense structure to a border year-round. It's an excellent choice for a smaller garden, rockery, or the front of a shrub bed. As with other rhododendrons, it prefers moist, well-drained, acidic (ericaceous) soil and grows best in partial shade with shelter from strong afternoon sun, though it will also tolerate more open positions in cooler spots. Fully hardy, it needs no winter protection once established.
