Rhododendron Scarlet Wonder 13cm pot

A dwarf rhododendron that punches well above its size, 'Scarlet Wonder' produces a vivid display of deep, glowing red, funnel-shaped flowers gathered into neat trusses in late spring. The blooms stand out beautifully against small, glossy, quilted-textured leaves that hold their good looks and rich green colour right through the year, giving the plant real presence even out of flower.

This compact, low-growing evergreen typically reaches around 60cm in height, forming a dense, bushy mound that suits smaller borders, rockeries, or the front of a mixed shrub bed. It grows best in partial shade with some protection from strong midday sun, in moist, well-drained, acidic (ericaceous) soil — avoid heavy clay unless well improved with organic matter, and plant slightly proud of the soil surface to help guard against root rot. Fully hardy, it needs no winter protection once established, and rarely requires pruning to keep its neat habit.
