Quercus palustris 'Green Pillar' – Columnar Pin Oak (7L Pot)

'Green Pillar' gives smaller gardens a stately oak in a slim, space-saving form. Its dense, upright branches make a narrow column clothed in the elegant, deeply cut leaves typical of the pin oak. They're a glossy dark green through summer before turning a rich red-bronze in autumn. Raised in the USA in the 1990s, it's a superb choice for tight spaces, formal avenues, driveways and boundaries, where it adds height and structure without casting a wide shadow. Its acorns also provide food for wildlife.

It grows to around 4m x 1.5m after 10 years. Plant in full sun in deep, fertile, lime-free soil. It tolerates clay and damp ground well. It keeps its narrow shape naturally, so little or no pruning is needed.
