Quercus robur 'Boscobel Royal' – Royal Oak (12L Pot)

'Boscobel Royal' brings a remarkable piece of English history into the garden. It is propagated from the celebrated Royal Oak at Boscobel House in Shropshire, the tree that marks where the future King Charles II hid from Parliamentarian soldiers after his defeat at the Battle of Worcester in 1651. The story became one of the best-known episodes in British history and gave its name to countless Royal Oak pubs across the country. This limited edition tree has all the character of our native English oak, with dark green lobed leaves that colour in autumn and a generous crop of acorns. It's wonderful for wildlife and makes a meaningful commemorative or celebration tree.

It grows to over 6m after 10 years and eventually becomes a large, long-lived tree, so choose a spot with plenty of space. Plant in full sun in deep, fertile soil. It also copes well with chalk, dry conditions and coastal sites. Little pruning is needed beyond shaping in winter while young.
