Pyrus elaeagnifolia subsp. kotschyana 'Silver Sails' – Silver Pear (12L Pot)

'Silver Sails' is a handsome ornamental pear grown for its long, lance-shaped leaves in a soft silvery green, with a felted texture that shimmers in sunlight. In spring the branches are covered in white blossom with contrasting red anthers, followed in autumn by small, glossy, yellow-green fruits. It's an upright to spreading tree that brings the look of the popular weeping silver pear to a more structured shape, and it combines beautifully with purple foliage or in Mediterranean-style and coastal plantings.

It grows to around 4m x 3m after 10 years. Plant in full sun in almost any reasonably drained soil. It is very hardy and highly drought tolerant once established, and needs very little pruning beyond removing any crossing or damaged branches in winter.
