Pyrus calleryana 'Chanticleer' – Ornamental Pear (12L Pot)

Pyrus calleryana 'Chanticleer' is one of the best ornamental pears for smaller gardens, with a naturally neat, narrow, pyramidal shape. In April it is covered in a cloud of pure white blossom, one of the first trees to flower each spring. Its glossy green leaves hold on late into the season before turning rich shades of purple and claret in autumn. It was bred in Ohio in the 1950s and is tough and reliable, and its slim outline makes it ideal for screening, boundaries, avenues and front gardens.

It grows to around 5m x 3m after 10 years. Plant in full sun. It tolerates most soils, including clay, is very hardy and copes well with drought once established. It keeps its shape naturally and needs very little pruning.
