A dainty and unusual little bulb, Puschkinia scilloides var. libanotica produces dense spikes of pale, icy-blue flowers, each petal marked with a fine, darker blue central stripe — an eye-catching detail best appreciated at close range. Flowering in early spring alongside crocuses and snowdrops, it's a lovely choice for the front of borders, rock gardens or naturalising along paths, offering a softer, more subtle alternative to the brighter blues of Scilla and Chionodoxa.
Reaching around 10-15cm in height, this variety is best planted in early autumn, 5cm deep, in moist but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. It's fully hardy and thrives with minimal fuss once established, gradually multiplying to form generous, long-lived colonies over the years.
