One of the most dramatic pieris available, 'Forest Flame' holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its show-stopping spring foliage. New growth emerges a vivid flame red, ageing through pink and cream before settling into glossy dark green — a kaleidoscopic display that unfolds over several weeks. Large branched clusters of small, cream, bell-shaped flowers follow in spring, adding a second layer of interest against the coloured foliage.

Grow in full sun or partial shade, in moist but well-drained, acidic soil enriched with humus, and choose a sheltered spot — cold, drying winds can scorch the tender new red growth. Unlike its more compact relatives, 'Forest Flame' is a genuinely large evergreen shrub, with the RHS listing an eventual height of 2.5–4m and a spread of 1.5–2.5m, so it needs room to develop into a specimen plant or informal hedge rather than a container or small border.
