A compact, upright Russian sage with a neat, columnar habit and dense spikes of intense blue-purple flowers held above finely aromatic, oval green leaves. Blooming over a long season from summer into autumn, 'Prime Time' brings a hazy, silvery-blue presence to borders and gravel gardens, and its sturdy stems hold themselves well without staking or flopping. The foliage releases a distinctive fragrance when brushed against, adding another dimension to its appeal, and its flower spikes are a magnet for bees and other pollinators.

Reaching 50–100cm in both height and spread at maturity, 'Prime Time' is best planted in full sun or light dappled shade, in moist but well-drained or well-drained soil — it's tolerant of chalk, loam and sandy soils and copes well with poor or free-draining conditions once established. It's reliably hardy through most of the UK, though in exposed or particularly cold gardens a sheltered spot is worth choosing. Cut back hard in early spring to encourage strong new growth and keep plants compact; it can be slower to reappear than other border perennials, so don't be alarmed if it's one of the last to show signs of life. Established plants are drought-tolerant and largely low-maintenance, making this a good choice for sunny, free-draining borders, coastal gardens, or anywhere a long season of soft colour is wanted.

Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch to ensure it reaches you in the best possible condition.
