Paeonia Lactiflora 'Bunker Hill' 2Ltr

A garden favourite for well over a century, 'Bunker Hill' brings all the drama of a classic double peony to the border. From early to mid-summer, fully double, richly fragrant blooms open in a warm pinkish-red above handsome dark green, deeply divided foliage that remains attractive from spring right through to autumn.

Clump-forming and long-lived, this peony thrives in a deep, fertile, humus-rich soil that's moist but well-drained, in full sun or partial shade — a sheltered spot will help protect the heavy blooms from wind damage. Expect a mature height and spread of 0.5–1m, reached over 2–5 years, and note that taller stems may benefit from discreet staking once flowers are in full bloom. Once established, peonies resent being disturbed, so choose their planting spot with care; they can then be left undivided for many years. As with other peonies, foliage can be a mild skin irritant to pets, so position with that in mind if furry visitors roam the borders.

Ideal for cottage gardens, mixed borders, and as a long-lasting cut flower.
