Miscanthus sinensis 'Yaku Jima'
A compact, dwarf form of maiden grass, 'Yaku Jima' brings all the movement and structure of miscanthus to gardens where space is at a premium. Very slender, blue-green leaves form a neat, upright to slightly arching clump, with feathery panicles of pink-flushed, creamy-silver flowers held well above the foliage in late summer and autumn. The leaves turn a warm gold as the season turns, fading to brown for winter interest.
Grow in full sun in any moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil, in an open position and protected from excessive winter wet. Reaching around 1–1.5m in both height and spread, it's more manageable than many of its larger relatives, making it a good fit for smaller borders, gravel gardens, or generous containers. Leave the faded foliage and flowerheads in place over winter for structure and wildlife interest, then cut back hard in spring as new growth begins. Generally free from pests and disease.
Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch.
