Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light'

A refined and elegant ornamental grass, Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light' brings movement and quiet drama to the garden all year round. Its slender, arching leaves are finely edged in white, giving the whole plant an airy, silvery glow that catches beautifully in low autumn sun. Held on an upright, fountain-like clump, the foliage turns soft copper as the seasons change, remaining a striking feature well into winter.

In late summer and autumn, delicate pink-tinged plumes rise above the leaves, adding further texture and catching the light as they age to cream. This is a compact, well-mannered cultivar, reaching 1–1.5m in height with a spread of 0.5–1m, making it equally at home as a specimen plant, in mixed borders, or planted in drifts for a naturalistic, textural effect.

Fully hardy and low maintenance, 'Morning Light' thrives in full sun in any moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Cut back hard in late winter or early spring to make way for fresh new growth. This RHS Award of Garden Merit winner is a superb choice for adding structure and gentle movement to a border throughout the seasons.
