Miscanthus sinensis 'Flamingo' (Eulalia 'Flamingo')
An RHS Award of Garden Merit grass, widely rated by garden designers as one of the finest pink-flowering Miscanthus for its lightness and elegance. Arching, strap-like green leaves with prominent white midribs form a graceful clump, and from late summer, feathery, gently pendant flower plumes open a soft pink before fading to silvery white as autumn progresses — an outstanding display that carries good structure and colour right through winter. Foliage turns warm golden-orange in autumn.
A clump-forming deciduous grass reaching around 1 to 1.5 metres in height with a spread of 0.5 to 1 metre, making a fine architectural feature for a sunny border or as part of a naturalistic planting scheme. Grow in full sun in any moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil, protecting from excessive winter wet. Leave the seedheads standing for winter interest, then cut back close to ground level in late winter before new growth begins. It's happy in coastal gardens and generally left alone by both deer and rabbits.
