Malus 'Butterball' is a delightful crab apple with pink buds opening to pure white blossom in April. In autumn the branches arch under a heavy crop of marble-sized, butter-yellow fruits flushed orange, which hang on well into winter and are good for jelly-making. It is disease resistant with a spreading, slightly weeping habit.
This patio form is grafted onto dwarfing M27 rootstock, which keeps it to no more than about 2m, making it ideal for a large pot on a terrace or a small border. Grow in full sun or partial shade, keep container trees well watered and fed through the growing season, and provide a stake if it crops heavily. It is self-fertile and an excellent pollinator for nearby apple trees.
Each tree is hand-selected before dispatch.
