Mahonia 'Meteor' 3ltr pot

Mahonia 'Meteor'

A striking, low-maintenance evergreen shrub that earns its keep in every season. Fine, spine-free foliage emerges a vivid red in spring and summer before mellowing to glossy dark green, giving 'Meteor' a soft, almost bamboo-like texture quite unlike the spinier mahonias. From late summer through to November, tall spikes of honey-scented yellow flowers appear, drawing in pollinators at a time when little else is in bloom, followed by decorative blue-black berries (ornamental only — not for eating, and gloves are recommended when handling and pruning).

Compact and upright, 'Meteor' reaches around 1–1.5m in height and spread over 5–10 years, making it a versatile choice for smaller borders, courtyard gardens, or large containers on a patio. It thrives in full sun or partial shade and isn't fussy about soil type, tolerating chalk, clay, loam or sand, provided drainage is reasonable. Fully hardy, it needs little more than an annual tidy to keep its shape.

Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch.
