A wonderfully compact evergreen shrub, Leucothoe fontanesiana 'Little Flames' earns its name with a spectacular seasonal show of colour that keeps the garden interesting right through the year. Fresh, glossy new leaves emerge in vivid fire-engine red each spring, settling to a lush, shiny green through the summer months before igniting once again into deep burgundy-red as the weather cools, holding that fiery colour throughout autumn and winter.

In mid to late spring, dainty clusters of small, fragrant white flowers appear along the branches, adding a delicate contrast to the vibrant foliage. Naturally low-growing and neatly mounded, this slow-growing shrub keeps its tidy shape with minimal pruning, making it a superb choice for the front of a shaded border, a woodland-style planting, a low informal hedge, or a striking accent in a decorative pot on the patio.
