Leucothoe 'Fire Star' 5ltr

A truly eye-catching evergreen shrub, Leucothoe 'Firestar' is grown for its extraordinary multi-coloured foliage, which puts on a genuine seasonal performance from one end of the year to the next. Young leaves emerge a glossy deep red with creamy white margins, maturing through summer to a striking variegated green and gold, before splashes of red and bronze return as temperatures drop, deepening into rich burgundy tones through autumn and winter.

Small clusters of white, cream-tinged flowers appear in spring, though it's the ever-changing foliage that remains the real draw, offering colour and interest in the garden throughout the year. Naturally bushy and compact in habit, 'Firestar' is a wonderful choice for brightening a shaded border, underplanting larger shrubs and trees, or growing in a container on a shaded patio.

This Leucothoe thrives in a partially or fully shaded position, sheltered from strong winds, and prefers reliably moist, acidic soil. Where garden soil isn't naturally acidic, it also grows beautifully in a container using an ericaceous compost mix, making it just as easy to enjoy on a patio as in a border.
