Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote' (English Lavender)
One of the most popular and dependable lavenders, 'Hidcote' is an RHS Award of Garden Merit winner named after the celebrated Arts and Crafts garden in Gloucestershire. Its dense, silvery-grey evergreen foliage is topped from midsummer with tightly packed spikes of deep violet-purple flowers, richly fragrant and irresistible to bees and butterflies. Fully hardy, it copes well even in northern UK gardens.
A compact, bushy dwarf shrub reaching around 50 to 60cm in height with a spread of up to 75cm, growing at a steady rate of roughly 10cm a year. Its neat habit makes it ideal for edging borders and paths, informal or clipped hedging, gravel gardens, and containers. Grow in full sun in well-drained soil — it's tolerant of chalk, clay, loam and sand, and thrives in poorer, drier conditions. Trim lightly after flowering and again in spring to keep plants dense, taking care never to cut back into old wood, as lavender doesn't reshoot reliably from bare stems.
Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch.
