Hedera helix 'Eva' 13cm

Hedera helix 'Eva' is a beautifully compact, variegated ivy, awarded "Ivy of the Year" for its delicate good looks. Its small, three-lobed leaves are marked in two soft shades of green with a broad, creamy-white margin, each leaf subtly unique in shape and colour distribution – and in winter, the stems and leaf edges take on a lovely pink flush, adding further seasonal interest.

More modest in growth than the species, this neat, branching variety reaches a height of around 1.4–1.5m with a spread of just 1m, making it a wonderfully versatile plant for both indoors and out. Outside, it's an excellent, well-behaved choice for climbing a small support, trailing from a container, or as ground cover in partially shaded spots, all without becoming invasive. Indoors, it makes a charming houseplant, equally happy trailing from a shelf or hanging basket, or trained up a small support.

Fully hardy, Hedera 'Eva' is just as at home outdoors as it is as a houseplant. Grown outside, it thrives in partial shade and tolerates a wide range of soil types. As an indoor plant, it does best in bright, indirect light, though it also tolerates lower light levels well – simply keep the compost lightly moist, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings, and trim back as needed to maintain a neat shape.
