Bring long-lasting colour to borders, patios and containers with Hebe Addenda, a compact evergreen shrub that flowers from midsummer well into autumn. Its neat, rounded mounds of glossy green foliage are topped with dense spikes of flowers in shades of purple, pink, mauve or white. They’re a valuable late source of nectar for bees and butterflies, just as many other plants are fading. Supplied as mixed colours, so each plant brings its own shade to the garden.

Hebe Addenda grows slowly to around 60cm–1m in height and spread, which makes it ideal for the front of a border, low informal edging or a large patio pot. Plant in full sun or light shade in moist but well-drained soil, ideally in a spot sheltered from cold, drying winds. Hebes do especially well in coastal gardens because they tolerate salt-laden air. Water regularly until established, after which it copes well with dry spells. It is frost hardy but not fully hardy, so in colder areas give it a sheltered position or protect it with horticultural fleece during hard frosts. Pots can be moved against a house wall for winter. Pruning is rarely needed. Trim off any frost-damaged or straggly shoots in late spring, but avoid cutting back into old, bare wood, because it may not regrow.
