A compact, bushy evergreen shrub with neat, glossy green foliage, adding structure and colour to the garden all year round. From summer through to autumn — often lasting into the first frosts in milder spots — it's covered in striking spikes of deep blue-purple flowers. Growing to around 60–100cm in height and spread depending on conditions, it's a versatile choice for borders, containers, and mixed planting schemes, and is a firm favourite with bees and butterflies. Fully hardy and copes well with UK winters, though a little extra winter protection is welcome in colder areas.

Planting & care: Plant in moist, well-drained soil in full sun or light shade, watering regularly through the first growing season to help it establish. Once settled, it's low maintenance and drought tolerant — simply deadhead through summer to keep the blooms coming, and give it a light trim in early winter or spring to maintain its neat, compact shape. Mulch annually to help retain moisture and feed the soil.
