Gaura Gaudi Red 3L

A compact, bushy Gaura (botanically Oenothera lindheimeri), 'Gaudi Red' produces deep pink-red, star-shaped flowers opening from red buds, held on wiry red stems above narrow, dark green foliage tinted burgundy-red. Flowering from summer into early autumn, its butterfly-like blooms dance in even the lightest breeze, and its petite, well-branched habit makes it a lovely front-of-border choice.

Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun for the best flowering, though it will also tolerate drier ground and a little partial shade. Avoid overly rich soil, which tends to encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers. Once established it takes heat and drought comfortably in its stride, needing only occasional watering during prolonged dry spells. Cut back to around 15cm from the ground in early spring, and note that this variety can be a little shorter-lived than some other gauras, so treating it as a productive short-term perennial rather than expecting many years from a single plant is worth bearing in mind. Reaching a compact 30cm in height and spread, it also does well in containers.

A vibrant addition to the front of a sunny border or a mixed patio pot, and a good source of nectar for bees. Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch.
