One of the most reliable heralds of spring, Forsythia x intermedia 'Weekend' bursts into life in late winter and early spring, its bare, slender branches becoming smothered in masses of vivid golden-yellow flowers before a single leaf appears. It's a brilliant, uplifting display that never fails to signal the season is turning, and one that has earned this variety the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Once flowering finishes, glossy, mid to dark green, lance-shaped leaves emerge, building into a neat, dense framework of foliage through spring and summer, with occasional bronze-yellow tints as autumn approaches. Forming a rounded, medium-sized shrub, 'Weekend' is more compact than many other forsythias, making it a good fit for smaller gardens while still delivering plenty of impact, whether grown as a specimen, worked into a mixed border, or trained against a wall.

Fully hardy and wonderfully easy to grow, this forsythia tolerates a wide range of positions and soils, thriving in full sun or partial shade.
