Crataegus × media 'Paul's Scarlet' (12L Pot)

The most popular of all the double-flowered hawthorns in the UK, 'Paul's Scarlet' is a small, rounded, deciduous thorny tree grown above all for its spectacular spring display — masses of fully double, light red to scarlet-pink flowers that smother the branches from May into June. The glossy, lobed green leaves make an ideal foil for the blossom before turning yellow in autumn, when clusters of orange-red berries appear, offering food and shelter for garden birds.

This variety carries the RHS Award of Garden Merit, a mark of its enduring popularity and reliable garden performance.

Tough and adaptable, it tolerates a wide range of soils including chalk, clay, loam and sand, and copes well with coastal, urban and exposed sites, thriving in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained ground. Given time it will reach an eventual height and spread of around 4–8m, making it an excellent specimen tree for small gardens, informal borders, or as a striking flowering addition to a mixed boundary.
