A charming, trailing succulent with small, heart-shaped leaves in a playful blend of cream, pink and green — the mottled effect giving rise to its "calico" name. As the plant matures, its once-delicate stems develop a slightly woody texture, and mature plants produce small white flowers in late winter and spring. Its cascading habit makes it a lovely choice for hanging baskets or trailing over the edge of a shelf or pot, where its colour intensifies with good light.
'Calico Kitten' is best grown as a houseplant in the UK rather than outdoors, as it isn't frost-hardy. Give it a bright spot with plenty of indirect light — some gentle morning sun is fine, but shield it from intense, direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves, and from deep shade, which will cause the colours to fade. Plant it in a well-draining cactus or succulent mix, and water only once the soil has dried out fully between waterings; it's far more likely to suffer from overwatering than underwatering, so if in doubt, leave it be. Keep it out of reach of pets, as it isn't safe for them to nibble on. Propagation is easy from leaf or stem cuttings, left to callus for a day or two before potting into fresh, dry compost.
Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch to ensure it reaches you in the best possible condition.
