Cotoneaster salicifolius 'Repens' Patio Tree, Top-Worked at 85cm (11.5L Pot)

A charming way to bring this ground-hugging cotoneaster into a small garden or onto the patio, 'Repens' is naturally a fast-growing, prostrate shrub, but here it's been grafted onto an 85cm clear stem to create an elegant miniature weeping tree — perfect for a large container or a compact border where a sprawling groundcover wouldn't be practical. The glossy, dark green foliage cascades attractively from the crown, turning rich plum tones in autumn before dropping in colder winters.

Through the summer months, delicate clusters of white flowers appear along the branches, followed by small red berries that persist into autumn and winter, providing valuable food for garden birds.

Resilient and unfussy, it copes well with exposed and dry sites and tolerates most soil types, including clay, thriving in full sun or partial shade in moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Grafting the crown onto the upright stem limits its ultimate height and spread, making it ideally suited to patio pots or small gardens where a full-sized specimen would be unwelcome.

Please note that this cotoneaster is listed on Schedule 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 — it's perfectly fine to grow in a private garden or container, but it must not be planted in the wild in England and Wales.
