Cotoneaster salicifolius 'Exburiensis' (12L Pot)
An elegant and distinctive evergreen shrub, Cotoneaster salicifolius 'Exburiensis' brings gentle colour variation to the garden with its long, arching branches clothed in narrow, lance-shaped, deeply-veined green leaves. In early summer, large clusters of small white flowers appear along the stems, providing a good source of nectar for pollinators, before giving way to an unusual and eye-catching crop of apricot-yellow, spherical berries that often take on a delicate pink tinge as winter approaches.
As with other cotoneasters, the berries are ornamental rather than edible, so it's sensible to site the plant where pets and young children won't be tempted to sample them.
Vigorous and easy-going, it tolerates a wide range of soils including chalk, clay, loam and sand, coping well with drought once established while disliking waterlogged conditions. It's happy in full sun or partial shade and copes with both exposed and sheltered positions. Left to its own devices it will reach an eventual height and spread of around 5m, making it well suited to a large border, informal hedge, or as a graceful specimen shrub where its arching habit has room to develop.
Supplied as a well-established plant in a 12-litre pot, ready to plant out and establish quickly.
Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch.
