Cotoneaster 'Cornubia' (12L Pot)

A magnificent large shrub or small tree, Cotoneaster 'Cornubia' brings real presence to the garden with its vigorous, arching branches and narrow, glossy dark green leaves that persist through much of the winter in its semi-evergreen habit. Come summer, clusters of small white flowers appear, providing a valuable source of nectar for pollinators, before giving way in autumn to spectacular, heavy trusses of large, bright red berries that weigh down the branches and provide a feast for garden birds well into winter.

This popular variety holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, reflecting its reliable performance and outstanding ornamental value. As with other cotoneasters, the berries are decorative rather than edible, so it's best sited where inquisitive pets and children won't be tempted to sample them.

Fast-growing and tolerant of a wide range of soils, including chalk, clay, loam and sand, it thrives in full sun or partial shade and copes well with exposed or coastal positions. Given its eventual size of around 6m in height and spread, it's ideally suited to informal borders, wildlife gardens, or as an impressive specimen tree — it also makes a superb subject for a loose, arching hedge or screen.

Supplied as a well-established plant in a 12-litre pot, ready to plant out and establish quickly.

Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch.
