Cortaderia selloana 'Rosea' (Pink Pampas Grass)

A larger, more dramatic sibling to the dwarf forms, 'Rosea' is prized for its glistening pink-tinged plumes — a softer, blush-toned twist on the classic pampas silhouette. Densely tufted clumps of arching, blue-green foliage build through the season into a striking architectural feature, with the feathery panicles rising well above the leaves in late summer and holding their colour and form right through into winter.

Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil, allowing plenty of room for it to reach its full size — it matures to around 1.5–2.5 metres in height with a spread of 1–1.5 metres over just two to five years, faster-growing than some other pampas grass forms. It's a good choice for exposed or coastal positions, tolerant of most soil types. Cut back and comb out the previous year's stems in late winter, taking care as the leaf margins are sharply toothed.
