Cornus mas — 12L Pot
The cornelian cherry earns its place for one of the earliest and most welcome flowering displays of the gardening year: small clusters of bright yellow flowers open on bare stems in late winter, bringing real colour at a time when little else is happening. Oval green leaves follow through summer before turning a rich purple in autumn, and glossy red, cherry-like fruits — edible, and traditionally used for jams and jellies — appear alongside the changing foliage.
Undemanding and adaptable, it grows happily in full sun or partial shade, tolerating chalk, clay, loam and sand alike. Expect an eventual height and spread of 2.5–4m, reached over 10–20 years, making it a versatile choice for a mixed border, informal hedge, or as an early-season specimen close to a path where its winter flowers can be enjoyed.
Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch.
