Cornus alternifolia 'Argentea' — 12L Pot
Known as the silver pagoda dogwood for its distinctive, elegant tiered branch structure, this is one of the finest variegated shrubs for year-round interest. Ovate leaves are edged in crisp white, giving the whole plant a light, silvery glow that lifts a shady corner, before taking on reddish-purple tints ahead of leaf fall. In spring, small flat heads of bright white flowers appear along the branches, followed by black berries in autumn. Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, and notably slow-growing, so it stays elegant and in scale for many years.
Best in a sheltered spot in full sun or partial shade, in any reasonably moist, well-drained soil, from acid through to alkaline. Expect an eventual height and spread of around 1.5–2.5m over 10–20 years, making this an excellent specimen shrub for a smaller garden where its tiered, architectural habit can be properly appreciated.
Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch.
