Allium sphaerocephalon (Drumstick Allium) — 30 Bulbs
A brilliant late-season allium, Allium sphaerocephalon produces small, densely packed, egg-shaped flowerheads in a rich wine-purple, quite different in form from the larger globe alliums but no less charming. Held on tall, wiry stems above narrow foliage, the "drumsticks" open green before deepening to their full colour, adding movement and gentle texture when swayed by the breeze — a lovely contrast planted through ornamental grasses or threaded among later-flowering perennials.
Reaching around 60-100cm in height, this variety is best planted in autumn, 10cm deep, in well-drained soil in full sun. It tolerates poorer, drier soils well and copes with summer drought once established, though it appreciates consistent moisture through the growing season. Flowering in early to midsummer, it's excellent for cutting and drying, and naturalises readily by offsets and self-seeding to form generous colonies over time
