Bred by Raymond Evison and selected by RHS Director General Sue Biggs CBE to commemorate RHS Garden Bridgewater in Salford, this Clematis produces large, soft pink, star-shaped blooms with creamy-white highlights and a bold central star, up to 15cm across. Each flower is set off by contrasting red anthers, and the plant blooms densely from base to tip for excellent coverage the full length of its growth.

Flowering profusely from May through July, with a further flush in September, 'Bridgewater' has a full, bushy habit and reaches around 1.2m, making it well suited to a large container, front-to-mid border, or growing up an obelisk, trellis or fencing.

Plant in deep, moisture-retentive, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade, with the top of the rootball around 7.5cm below soil level to encourage new shoots from the base. Keep the roots cool and shaded with underplanting or a layer of pebbles - clematis prefer their "heads in the sun and feet in the shade." Falls into Pruning Group 3, so cut back hard to around 15cm in late winter or early spring to encourage strong new growth and a full season of flowers. A magnet for pollinators, it's a lovely addition to any wildlife-friendly border. As with all clematis, the foliage and stems can be a skin irritant and are harmful if eaten, so it's best sited away from grazing pets and gloves are recommended when handling.

Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch to ensure strong, healthy growth from the start.
