Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy' — 12L Pot

Grown chiefly for its extraordinary foliage, 'Forest Pansy' produces broadly heart-shaped leaves in a deep red-purple that holds through summer before shifting into shades of orange, bronze and red-purple in autumn — few trees offer such sustained colour across so many months. In spring, before the leaves emerge, clusters of small, bright pink flowers appear directly on the bare stems, giving an unusual and striking early display. Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, and often grown as a multi-stemmed specimen for extra impact.

Best in a warm, sheltered, sunny spot, in fertile, well-drained soil — full sun brings out the richest leaf colour, though it also tolerates partial shade. It's best planted in its final position while young, as older plants resent being moved. Expect an eventual height and spread of 4–8m, reached over 10–20 years, making it a good-sized specimen for a mixed border or as a standalone feature.
