Carex oshimensis 'Evergold'

A holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, Carex oshimensis 'Evergold' is a graceful, evergreen sedge prized for its arching, narrow leaves, each marked with a broad, creamy-yellow central stripe edged in dark green, giving year-round colour and interest even through winter. Inconspicuous brown flower spikes appear on long stems in summer, though it's the striking variegated foliage that earns this variety its lasting popularity.

Forming a graceful, non-spreading clump, 'Evergold' typically reaches around 30–50cm in height and spread, making it a versatile choice for borders, pathway edging, or containers, and a lovely companion for shade-loving plants like hostas, astilbes, and primulas. It's easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade, and tolerates a good range of conditions once established. Low maintenance, it needs no regular pruning beyond removing tired foliage in spring.
