Bright, tidy and evergreen, Carex 'Evercream' is one of the most dependable sedges for adding year-round light to the garden. Its long, slender leaves are dark green edged with cream to pale yellow, arching outward to form a neat, fountain-like mound that looks just as fresh in January as it does in June. Part of the EverColor series, it's prized for its compact habit and the way it lifts shady corners, softens path and border edges, and brings texture to winter containers.
'Evercream' reaches a height and spread of up to 50cm, getting there over two to five years. It's happy in full sun or partial shade and grows in almost any soil (chalk, clay, loam or sand), provided it's moist but well-drained. Its inconspicuous brown flowers appear in summer, but the foliage is the real attraction. Planted in groups of three to five, it makes good low-maintenance ground cover. In pots it combines well with broad-leaved plants such as heuchera and hostas, or with winter bedding.
Care is minimal. Comb out any tired or brown leaves with your fingers in spring rather than cutting the whole plant back, and water container-grown plants during dry spells. Larger clumps can be lifted and divided in spring to make new plants.
Supplied in a 2 litre pot, ready to plant out. Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch.
