Carex comans 'Bronze Form'

A New Zealand native sedge, Carex comans 'Bronze Form' (also sold as 'Bronze') forms a densely tufted, evergreen mound of fine, hair-like, arching foliage in a warm bronze to reddish-brown, giving a soft, cascading effect that works beautifully as textural contrast against greener planting. Inconspicuous brown flower spikes appear within the foliage in mid-to-late summer, though the plant's real appeal lies in its year-round colour and form.

A compact variety, 'Bronze Form' typically reaches around 30–35cm in height with a spread of up to 60cm, making it well suited to the front of borders, low edging, containers, or planting near water features. It's easy to grow in most well-drained, fertile soils in full sun or partial shade, though it won't tolerate excessive winter wet, so good drainage is important. Low maintenance, it seldom needs dividing and benefits from a light tidy-up of old foliage in early spring.
