Carex brunnea Variegata 3ltr

A refined variegated sedge that forms neat, dense tufts of slender, arching leaves, each finely edged in pale yellow to cream against deep green. The variegation holds its colour right through the year, making this an evergreen plant that earns its place even in the quieter months of the garden. Delicate flower spikes appear in summer, ageing from creamy white to brown as the season progresses.

More compact than the species, Carex brunnea 'Variegata' typically reaches around 40cm (16in) in height and spread, forming a tidy, well-behaved clump. It prefers full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil, and does best in a sheltered spot, making it a lovely choice for patio containers, gravel gardens, or the front of a border where its foliage can be appreciated up close. Non-toxic to pets, it suits family gardens as readily as it does courtyard planting schemes.
