'Red Panda' brings some of the most vivid bark colour of any birch to the garden: coppery-pink and peeling, it exposes fresh, glowing layers beneath as the tree matures, giving real presence through the darker months. Bronze-green young leaves emerge in spring alongside hanging yellow-brown catkins, maturing to a tapering, glossy green through summer and turning yellow in autumn. The overall habit is conical and upright, making it a clean, architectural choice as a specimen tree or planted in a small avenue.

Grow in full sun or partial shade, in any reasonably moist, well-drained soil — it's tolerant of chalk, clay, loam and sand alike. Ultimately reaching heights above 12m with a spread over 8m, this is a long-term investment for a garden, taking 20–50 years to reach full size, though it will earn its keep as a striking young tree long before that.
