Azalea japonica 'Kermesina'
Thought to be an old Dutch variety, possibly grown in Boskoop since the 19th century, Azalea japonica 'Kermesina' is a hardy, floriferous evergreen shrub that produces a mass of deep pink flowers covering the entire plant in May and June. Its dense, neat, rounded habit and glossy evergreen foliage give year-round structure to beds and borders.
A compact variety, 'Kermesina' typically reaches around 50–60cm in height and spread, making it well suited to small gardens, mixed borders, and containers. Extremely hardy and easy to grow, it thrives in full sun or partial shade and needs moist, humus-rich, well-drained acidic soil, so plant with ericaceous compost and mulch annually to help retain moisture. All parts of the plant are harmful if eaten, so gloves are recommended when handling and pruning.
Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch.
